8. Pubertal transition, sex-dimorphic physical changes and general well-being in cis- and trans-gendered adolescents and patients with variations of sex characteristics

The research

This research will aim:

  1. At describing the variation in secondary sex characteristics such aspubertal breast development and breast size, voice change and muscle strength during hormonal transition and their association with general well-being in healthy school children
  2. At comparing the cis-gender population with gender diverse adolescents and young patients with variations in sex characteristics e. girls with congenital adrenal hyperplasia or hyperandrogenism

The reference population will be derived from a large population-based study of children and teenagers (the Copenhagen Puberty Study). The patient population will originate in the department’s outpatient clinic.

Your experience

Candidates should have:

  • A Master’s degree in psychology or a neighbouring field related to the research project
  • Good communicationskills with adolescents
  • Scientific curiosity
  • Fluent spoken and written English skills

 In addition, the following experience would be helpful, but not essential: 

  • Experience withclinical work in paediatrics and
  • Knowledge ofDanish or the willingness to learn the basics of the language.

The position

The Multidisciplinary team at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark has long-standing and internationally recognized experience with population-based studies of growth and puberty as well as studies of patients with rare endocrine diseases, variations of sex characteristics and transgender adolescents. We host a large group of junior and senior researchers at all levels of expertise and from different disciplines. We will collaborate with experts at Amsterdam University Medical Center.

The candidate is expected to contribute to project protocol development, obtaining of relevant ethical and legal permissions, data collection and validation, statistical analyses, and preparation of manuscripts.
